What 32 Academy Teaches and Who It Is For

People ask us how to get started in photography and video more than they ask about any single service. 32 Academy is our answer. It runs as a term with a small group, in the studio, on the gear we use for paying work. Here is what it is and what it is not.

How the term runs

The Fall 2026 term began Sunday, September 13, with weekday classes after 6:00 PM so people can come straight from work or school, and Sunday sessions scheduled around the group for those who cannot make weeknights. Miss a class and there is a makeup day to catch up. The term is five classes, start to finish, and it ends with a graduation certificate. Seats go in the order enrollments come in, and details are on the academy page.

What you learn

• How a camera actually works: exposure, focus, lenses, and why the automatic mode is holding you back.
• Light. Finding it, shaping it, and what to do when there is not enough of it.
• Composition and direction: how to put a person in a frame and how to tell them what to do.
• Video fundamentals: frame rates, movement, and audio, which matters more than the camera.
• Editing: the workflow from card to finished file, for stills and for video.
• The business side: what to charge, how to deliver, and how to not get taken advantage of.

Who gets the most out of it

Someone with a camera they do not fully understand. A student thinking about media as a career. A church volunteer who got handed the camera. A small-business owner who wants to shoot their own social content properly. A person who has been doing it a while and knows they have gaps. The group is mixed on purpose, and the classes are built for anyone ready to learn, not for people who already know it.

What it is not

It is not a certificate that gets you a job on its own, and it is not a lecture series. It is practical, with cameras in hand, and what you get out of it depends on what you shoot between classes. The people who do best are the ones who bring work back to the next session and ask why it did not look the way they wanted.

Why we run it

Kelvin Brockington, who owns 32 Productions, taught himself over more than a decade. The academy exists to shorten that for other people in South Georgia, and to grow the pool of people who can shoot well around here. What a class night looks like

A short explanation of the evening's subject, then cameras in hand. Light is taught by moving a subject around the studio and outside it until the difference is obvious in the frame. Composition is taught by shooting the same person five ways and looking at the results together. Editing is taught on the students' own files from that week. The group is small enough that every person shoots and every person gets feedback, and the work from one night becomes the material for the next.

After the term

Graduates leave with a foundation, a certificate, and a group of people around South Georgia who shoot. Some go on to shoot for their church, their school or their own business. Some rent gear from the catalog and start taking paid work. Some come back for the next term to go further. The point is that the region has more people in it who can make a good picture and a clean piece of video, and that is good for everyone who needs one.
